Authentic Ways To Connect With Daughters
When learning how to connect with your daughters no matter if they are young, in their tween, or tween years, the important factor is to make sure that you are being authentic.
Pushing a relationship with your daughter that she is not ready for can do more harm than good.
That’s why it’s almost important that as the mother in the relationship we start off with an open conversation and relationship of trust.
This is how we create the truthfulness of love, caring, and motherhood our daughters will need for the rest of their lives.
Don’t think for one second that when they grow up and have children of their own they still don’t crave that relationship with their mothers.
In fact, there might be a time when she might need you in her adult life more than she did as a young child.
It’s about opening up those communication barriers and honesty with each other.
That’s why I’ve put together a list of some simple ways you can start that important relationship between mother and daughter.
Read Books Together
One amazing way to connect with your daughter is to read with her or to read to her. Not just as a young girl, but as she grows up.
Grab two copies of books and read a set number of chapters each day.
You can read out loud to each other, or separately and then talk about it later.
It’s like a mini book club for just the two of you to connect.
You can use fun fiction, biographies, or even a devotional study or book on meditation.
Make sure you are also taking account of the type of books she enjoys.
Being open to learning some of the things that she enjoys will create a stronger bond between mother and child.
If your daughter is an adult and does not live close by, think about doing a weekly phone meeting where you discuss the book together.

Watch A Television Series Together
There are tons of great shows that help moms connect with their daughters while opening discussions together.
Again, you do not even need to live in the same home to be able to share the joy of television.
Find an age-appropriate show and make a date of watching it together each week.
Pop popcorn, or make cookies and snuggle in for a fun show date regularly.
My girls look forward to our weekly dance shows that we all enjoy watching together!
It’s a great way for me to see the things they are interested in and if there are any topics that I need to sit down and converse with them.
Especially now that they are getting into the tween years.
Have An At-Home Spa Day
Who doesn’t love a day of pampering? I know my girls do and so do I!
Plan a day when you can create a spa day of relaxation with your daughter.
Giving each other pedicures and manicures is a fun activity that both moms and daughters will enjoy.
Spending time creating your own beauty products or even making bath salts and such to give to friends is another addition to the fun of an at-home spa day.
Girls are loving bath bombs nowadays and you can easily make them yourself!
There are even kits you can purchase online or in stores that include everything you need for a fun spa day with young kids.
Have older daughters? Send them a gift card for a spa day and tell them it’s your treat. Then plan your spa day at the same time and send each other pictures while enjoying your treatments.
Later on, it’s a great way to start a conversation together and a nice little story you both share.
Give Each Other Makeovers
Sometimes it is all about letting your daughter see how you view her or letting her show you how she views you.
Giving each other makeovers is a great way to do this, plus it creates a special trust between both of you.
You can update each other’s looks and show real beauty shining through with or without the fancy clothes and makeup.
It’s all about seeing what we see in each other, rather than worrying about superficial beauty.
Plus, who doesn’t want to dress their daughter up to look beautiful?
Your daughter might also surprise you and see your beauty as you don’t see it yourself.
Be Open With Each Other
I’ve mentioned several times how important open communication is when it comes to raising children, especially when it comes to creating a strong mother-daughter relationship.
This isn’t oversharing with your daughter. This is all about asking important questions about her relationships, her life, and if she needs to talk about anything.
The tween and teen years are not easy. Young girls can use a trusted person to talk to and who better than their mother?
Talk to her and listen to what she says about who she has a crush on, who she is dating, friends she has, or what she is interested in.
This is the time to connect with your daughter and understand what makes her sad, what brings joy to her life, and what makes her happy.
You want to make sure you are building her self-esteem up and helping her to see her own value outside of relationships.
You can create a relationship where you can talk to her about your life, your stories, and even get her advice.
Just make sure that you are not levering guilt, harshness, or sharing any information that she as your daughter doesn’t have to hear.
As the mom, you still have to create some type of barrier and line that you should not cross.
Write To Each Other
Many parents find that writing to their children is a wonderful way to not only document their lives but to connect with them on a personal level.
Buy a pretty journal and write back and forth to each other.
Share stories, fears, ambitions, goals, or even frustrations.
Let your daughter into your world a little bit, and she will let you into hers.
If you have younger daughters leave special notes in their lunchboxes when you pack their school lunch.
Encourage them to do the same back on the same piece of paper. Leave a pencil or pen in their lunchbox so they are able to write back.
As a work-from-home mom, my daughters leave messages on my office desk weekly.
It’s a special way to start off my day.
Take A Girls Weekend Getaway
Girls’ weekends are not just for mom getaways! It’s also a great way to bond with your daughter as a mother.
Sometimes, you just need to get away from it all and enjoy each other’s company.
This means taking a few days of just the two of you going out together and exploring.
It may be a single night away to enjoy a fancy hotel and some shopping, or it could be a girl’s vacation cruise to the Caribbean to experience new things.
If you have several daughters you can make it a group trip, but also make sure to spend one on one time with each of your daughters during the trip.
They will never forget that effort you made and that trip you all took together.
It’s so easy to get caught up in our daily life, but each one has their own hobbies and interest they would like to share just with mommy sometimes.
So, making sure that as a mom you are taking the time to enjoy special moments together away from other siblings will create a bond that is magical.
Share A Hobby
Share your favorite hobbies and passions with your daughter and she will share them with you.
Whether you enjoy crafting, horseback riding, exercise, or painting you can share that with your daughter as another fun way to connect.
Let her have time to share the things she is passionate about as well, and you may find yourself learning to fun new things.
You might even begin to understand her on a deeper level than just seeing her as your daughter, but as a human who enjoys the beauty in things.
Go To Counseling
Sometimes family counseling isn’t just a healthy option if you have struggles, but also a great way to help problems from happening.
If you want to connect with your daughter as a mother, don’t hesitate to arrange for some family-daughter counseling time.
You can both go and share freely and find a new way to communicate that helps each of you feel loved and confident in your relationship.
Counseling among mothers and daughters is also a great way to open communication if you don’t have a strong relationship with your daughter.
Parenthood is not easy and sometimes parents don’t have the right tools or guides to become what they wish they were to their children.
Being able to accept this and understand that there are ways to create a strong relationship through counseling could be the first step in having the most wonderful relationship with your children.
If you are struggling with unique or great ways to connect with your daughter, these tips will help you to build that meaningful relationship you desire.
