Paul Rudd Interview Ant-Man and the Wasp | The Man Behind The Mask

Every movie event I attend is amazing and special in its own way. On this trip, I have checked off my bucket list meeting and interviewing Paul Rudd! How cool is that? I’ve been a huge fan of his since I saw him guest starring on Friends and his role in Clueless. His personality and wittiness not only shows on screen but also in real life. From the moment he entered the interview room he was making us laugh.

About Ant-Man and the Wasp

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

Hitting The Ground Running

When it comes to a sequel in movies we all know that it can be a hit or miss, but when it comes to Marvel they know how to get it right I dare say that Ant-Man and the Wasp is better than the first and as fans we knew exactly what to expect with each individual character. You get to dig a bit deeper with them and get to know them a bit more.

“We were able to lean into comedy a bit more, without having to explain it, and the people would go along with it. Also, with the first Ant-Man we needed to modulate how serious, how funny because Ant-Man it was a strange one, to begin with, everyone was finding their footing a little bit, but with this one, we kinda hit the ground running”.

Writing and Creating A Family-Friendly Film

One of the things that I wanted to ask Paul Rudd was about how family friendly the movie was and if that was purposefully done so. What I didn’t count on was not really paying attention to his answer because as a huge fan I will admit that I kinda went into another world for a few seconds! Haha! If you could believe that at the end of his answer I couldn’t even remember what I had asked. But here is his answer when it came to creating a family movie that all could watch.

“We have our own kinda space within this Marvel cinematic universe and our own tone within the films. While we want it to work within the universe and want it to be enjoyable for all ages, we’re dealing with parents and children. This is a theme that runs throughout this story”.

Paul Rudd’s Daughter Is The Real Cassie

As a father himself Paul Rudd can relate to his character Scott Lang. It even crossed his mind that maybe one day his daughter would think it was strange to see him play father to another little girl, but instead, his daughter loves it. Especially when it tells her that she is the real Cassie to him and he does little things in the movie that are meant just for her. I mean, you could imagine our reaction as moms when he said that? We were all moved by his answer and as parents, we understand completely.

“Those kinds of scenes are accessible to me because I’ve been in them, I know what that’s like. It’s also one of my favorite things because I share that with my own daughter”.

Working With Icons

We all know that Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are the stars of Ant-Man and the Wasp, but according to Paul Rudd, the icons in the film such as Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Laurence Fishburne are the ones who make the movie legit. You can feel the honesty coming behind these words during our interview. Especially his admiration for Michael Douglas as an actor and the career he’s had.

“As much as I admire him as an actor, I admire him and love him even more as a guy. As a friend. Not just about movie stuff. Instead, we talk about world events, sports, and our family. I feel like we’ve become friends which is still baffling to me.”
