I use Essential Oils For Cleaning and disinfecting areas of my home, but knowing which oils are the best to use and why is important.
Best Essential Oils For Cleaning
If you have followed my blog for a long period of time then you know that our family is a huge fan of essential oils.
In fact, I used to share essential oils way back when I first started sharing our homeschooling journey here.
Since then a lot has changed in the essential oil world and I’ve cut back on sharing our recipes or how we use them at home.
Today with all that is going on I wanted to share a simple list of some of our favorite essential oils that I use to disinfect our home and always keep on hand.
These therapeutic oils are fantastic for creating recipes to clean, for diffusing in the air, or just because they smell so good!
I hope that this helps your family find an alternative way to keep your home from inhibiting bacterial growth.

Disclaimer: I only recommend using high-quality therapeutic-grade Essential Oils. These are not everyday oils that you can find at the store. This is also what has worked for me and my family, this is in no way to take away from what is suggested by your doctor. I am not a doctor and I am not promising any healing or medicinal advice. I just love therapeutic oils and love sharing how we use them at home. These statements have not been evaluated by the food and drug administration.
Why Essential Oils
For us, our love of essential oils began when my oldest daughter was very young.
At first, I began using them during our homeschooling lessons to help her concentrate better.
When I realized how well it worked not only for her but for myself as well I started learning more about them.
I realized that I could create recipes for our home that would not only help us but would keep our home from chemicals.
I’ve helped my daughter ease her eczema with essential oils and help us through our asthma nights.
When I was going through cancer our house cleaner even started using my floor cleaning recipe that I shared with her, because she loved using it more than the chemicals she was using in other houses.
So, I essential oils are a huge part of our daily life.
Educate Yourself
I first want to say that one must always do their own research and learn how to use essential oils.
They are highly concentrated and should always be diluted if using topically.
There are certain oils that cannot be used around children, pregnant women, or pets.
So, please, learn about them before you use them.
There are tons of resources and books straight from essential oil brands that are fantastic!
I love The Wellness Mama for tons of resources and she knows what she’s talking about!
Essential Oils References and Guide Books
Below you will find my favorite essential oils references and guide books that you can purchase directly from Amazon.
How Can Essential Oils Help Disinfect
Essential oils derived from plants and a lot of them have natural disinfecting properties, plus antiviral and antifungal.
The trick is to learn which oils do what and how they can help you create cleaning solutions in your home.
Essential oil like tea tree oil is a natural disinfectant and can even be used on cuts, scrapes, and bug bites.

Where Can I Get Essential Oils
Essential oils are sold pretty much everywhere you shop now, but the thing to know is that if you want the best you have to do your research.
Personally I only use pure essential oils in which I have researched and compared throughout the years.
In my opinion, these essential oil brands are on the top of my list and are the cleanest of all.
Young Living
Young Living was the first brand of essential oils are family ever used.
I did my research and after hearing such great things about their products from friends and family, I made the decision to stick with them.
With Young Living the cost is a bit higher, you can purchase usually only through a representative, or you can now purchase on Amazon.
I used to have an account and sell it here on the blog and family, but since then have stopped.
Keep reading below to see why I stopped using Young Living, but if you want to purchase you can find them on Amazon as well.
DoTerra
Personally I’ve never used DoTerra, but know many friends who do.
Their essential oils are just as fantastic as Young Living’s and if I had not loved Young Living so much I might have ended up with them instead.
Again, to purchase you have to either know someone or purchase via Amazon.
Revive
Revive is my new favorite essential oil brand for a few reasons.
First, they carry organic essential oil and I love that!
Second, their products are made just as good as Young Living or DoTerra, personally I would even go as far as to say that they are actually better.
And third, the prices are absolutely phenomenal because there is no middle person.
You purchase directly from them and they ship for free!
Plus, they carry every essential oil and blends you can think of!
I even found some on Amazon so I decided to share below just in case.

How Do I Use Essential Oils To Clean The Air
The best way to use essential oils to clean the air in your home is by diffusing it.
You can purchase a diffuser on Amazon and even at local stores.
Every room in our home has a diffuser, including our master bedroom and our daughter’s rooms.
This way I make sure that the oil is in every part of our home.
I always diffuse the same oil or blend at the same time.
Check out some of my favorite diffusers you can find on Amazon below and try some of my favorite blends too!

How Do I Use Essential Oils To Clean
I also love making my own disinfectant counter spray and floor cleaners with my essential oils.
My favorite is my laminate and tile floor cleaner.
It leaves my floors super clean and the house smelling so good!
I’ve also used essential oils in my laundry when I wash clothes.
Sometimes the odor is just so strong that I prefer to add a few drops of lavender, orange, or thieves to make sure our clothes are nice and clean.
Plus, smelling so good.
Here are a few ways I use some of these essential oils at home:
- Cleaning spray
- Couch disinfecting spray
- Deodorizing spray

- Dryer ball in the dryer
