When you see Drax on the big screen, you see this massive, confident, and intense character. David Bautista could not be any more different than his character Drax. Check out my Exclusive Interview with Dave Bautista on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. On not liking the script, watching himself on screen, and his favorite Guardians movie!
I was invited by Disney to attend the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 press event in LA. The trip included an Exclusive Interview with Drax himself, David Bautista. All galactic opinions are my own.
Exclusive Interview with Dave Bautista on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 #GotGVol2Event
When Dave Bautista walked into the room, you can’t but notice how much he works out, but under all of those muscles is a very humble and self-conscious man. I know a bit of Dave Bautista, just going by what my little brother has told me. He is his biggest fan and admires him dearly. When I told him how he was after I met him, my brother responded with, “I know. That’s why I admire him so much.”
Bautista shared with us that he wasn’t thrilled about Drax’s role once he had read the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. He was hoping for a bit more action on Drax side, but instead, Drax ends up with a large part of the comedic relief in the movie. After he had read the entire script put together, he realized how amazing it was and how it all came together.
I read the script and I thought, wow, this is really a great script. It’s deep. It’s emotional, but I still was a little bit disappointed about my part. And then the first day we did our table read, I realized it was hysterical. And then I just had a completely different outlook on it as a whole.
Bautista confessed to us that Vol 2 is his favorite of the two Guardians of the Galaxy. Bautista, I have to agree with you! There is so much more emotion, laughter, and just a sense of family in Vol 2 that you can’t just be drawn into the storyline the entire way through.
It’s one of those things I feel like the more and more we get into the film, the more I am sucked into it and there’s certain beats I just sniffle up and I just get so emotionally like invested in this film.
Now, when it comes for him to watch himself on the big screen, he said he just cringes in his seat. He’s not a big fan to watch his work once it’s been done or during playbacks while they are shooting the film. Seeing this part of Dave Bautista puts a perspective on how different some actors are. Here you have a famous person who still gives himself a hard time, just like many of us do. He allows you to relate to him on so many different levels and I can see why my brother is such a huge fan of his.
I just don’t like watching myself on film. It’s just uncomfortable.
And because I’m the best big sister in the world how is interviewing her little brother’s idol I had to ask his questions. My brother wanted to know if wrestling helped him bring out Drax as his character.
He’s big and boisterous and a little bit egotistical and proud. And I’m just, not that. I’m just much more just, self-conscious and understated. But, you know, maybe. I just never really thought much about it and I never put it in that perspective. But, yeah, maybe it does have something to do with it, especially when, you know, Drax starts laughing. It’s just so big and ridiculous.
When it comes to the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Bautista said that he would love to see more of Drax’s past and a glimpse of his family. He things that the audience should have the chance to see that side of him. Plus,
What I’d really love is for people to have a visual, you know, a face, a name to put with a face. And I’d love if they would actually show Drax’s family.
He also spoke a bit about working on The Avengers film coming up. He said that it was fantastic working with the cast and the Russo brothers. They allowed the cast to be who they were and that is James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. We did try to get a bit more information on The Avengers cross over, but no luck there! Sorry, everyone!
I would love to spill the beans and no. I can tell you that we’re in the Avengers. I can tell you this. We’re in the Avengers.
I have to applaud Bautista on his role of Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy because he does keep us laughing throughout the entire film. I would have to say that he is one of my favorite characters in the movie for sure! Probably right after Groot!
Make sure to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 this Friday, May 5th in theaters! I’ve watched it twice now, and I can vouch for how fantastic the film is! Make sure to check out my review!
