Reasons To Watch For The People New ABC Show | Plus Cast Interviews
One of the things that I always look for when starting a new show on television is entertainment. I want it to pull me into the storyline and captivate my attention. ABC’s newest show For The People which airs tonight at 10 pm EST does exactly that. If you love drama shows with some strong female characters, then this is a show you don’t want to miss!
About For The People
Set in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (a.k.a. “The Mother Court”), the new Shondaland series show follows six talented young lawyers working on opposite sides of the law and handling the most high-profile and high-stakes federal cases in the country.
These young lawyers will be put to the test both personally and professionally as their lives intersect in and out of America’s most prestigious trial court.
Creating A Show About Lawyers From A Lawyer
One of the interesting things about the show is the fact that Creator and Executive Producer Paul William Davies is actually an attorney. He worked in a high profile law firm and still keeps his attorney title. His goal was to create a show in which showed the highest profile trial courts and how the lawyers worked the cases.
“I wanted to do something that showed the perspective of both sides. Not like in a formulaic way but just kind of in a way that you got a richer sense of how the law works and how justice is made in America”. – Creator and Executive Producer Paul William Davies
A Young Talented Cast
One of the best parts of watching For The People has to be the fact of how fantastic the entire cast is. The dynamic on-screen transferred while interviewing them. They are all smart, funny, and loved sharing their details on characters on the show.
Although none of the cast had any experience in working in the law industry they work hard to learn the language and linguistics of a courtroom. Experts were brought on set to help the cast learn specific languages and details on how to portray their characters as realistic as possible.
The entire cast shared how Susannah was great with research, understanding the law and helping educate the rest of the cast.
“We really tried to stay authentic to these voices and these characters. Finding people that didn’t have so many credits. It was about who really popped in these particular roles”. – Executive Producer Tom Verica
A New Look At The Court System
Executive Producer Tom Verica shared that although they are bending some of the stories a bit to create that dramatic effect, the team is also making sure that it’s as purposeful as possible.
“I wanted to show law in a light that was different than in some ways I experienced it and most of the people that I went to law school with experienced it. It’s generally an unhappy lot but this is the exception and this show is aspirational in.
It really does- especially in the times in which we live right now, I think it resonates, even more, the idea that the work that these people do on both sides is important and the integrity of the system is important”. – Creator and Executive Producer Paul William Davies
