“I’m Marry Poppins Y’all!” Seriously, that is the one line I cannot get out of my head after watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2! We had the pleasure of sitting down with Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn to talk about redemption, death, and teeth? Make sure that you have seen the movie before reading the rest of this Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker Interview Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, All About Yondu and Kraglin, because it contains some Spoilers!
I was invited by Disney to attend the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 press event in LA. This included an exclusive interview with Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn. All galactic opinions are my own.
Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker Interview Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 | All About Yondu and Kraglin #GotGVol2Event
One of the things that I loved about our interview with Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn is their honesty and their chemistry together. They were cast perfectly as Yondu and Kraglin. I really can’t see anyone else in these roles now that I have seen them on and off screen together.
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 we get to see a bit more of Kraglin in the movie. Will that be a transition into him being apart of the Guardians or the movie more in the future, like in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3?
Sean Gunn: I’d like to think there’s more in store for that character, but I don’t know anything. I don’t know if anyone knows anything, actually.
Again, spoiler alert coming! One of the scenes from the movie that made me cry tears and I mean ugly tears was when Yondu died! Yes, he died and it was the saddest things ever!
Micheal Rooker: You know what? I’m used to dying. I’ve died several times. Many times in different movies and different TV shows and it doesn’t hurt at all. It’s okay. I’ll be back somewhere.
I can’t imagine how the atmosphere on set would have been with such an emotional scene. Especially them the cast being so close and Guardians Vol 3 in the works.
GUNN: Well, when we’re doing the funeral scene at the end where Chris has his big speech and we’re all there. We’re all super sad and all of the sudden you hear [MAKES SNORING NOISES]. Rook was out. I won’t forget that. So funny.
As you can imagine makeup for each actor is very elaborate and would take hours of prepping before shoots.
Rooker: The makeup process is awesome. It was about a three hour process to put on and four, five, or six layers of different shades of blue, gold, silver, and yellow, flax and all kinds of stuff.
Another part of the costumes when it came to the characters Yondu and Kraglin was their teeth. Have you seen those things? First, they are not pretty, sorry guys, but they look super hard to speak in.
GUNN: Yeah, the teeth. The teeth can be tricky. I tried to get the teeth made a good several months before we started so that I could just put them in and work with the talking. Because I think talking through the teeth in the first movie, it was one of the most difficult things!
ROOKER: It was. But I didn’t have a problem with it because everybody’s different. Sean can speak English. I cannot. Sean, he uses consonants. I do not, almost never and my quality is more throatal and glottal. His is not. I mean, he can do that, of course. We are trained actors. It was very difficult for the whistle. A whistle’s all in the front right where the stupid teeth are. So I said, these, we’ve got to fix these because I’ve got to whistle. And so they did.
These interviews have been absolutely incredible and something I will never forget! I really hope that you have enjoyed reading them as much as I have writing about them and sharing them with all of you! Now, go see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 in theaters!!
