The newest Smurfs Movie, The Lost Village will be out in theaters this Friday, April 7th. I had the opportunity to watch an early screening of the movie with my family. My girls were super excited to see what the Smurfs were up to next. Growing up watching the original cartoons the hubby and I were curious to see Sony Pictures Animation had in store for us.
We attended an early screening of Smurfs: The Lost Village.
Smurfs: The Lost Village Movie Review #SmurfsMovie
If you’re a fan of the Smurfs movie, then you should definitely see this one! I think it might be my favorite one from all 3 movies. You don’t get to see a lot of the other Smurfs, with 4 main Smurf characters like Smurfette, Clumsy, Brainy, and Hefty. Papa Smurf makes a few appearances, but wait for the surprise they will find in The Lost Village! My girls were definitely excited to see more of Smurfette and some new characters.
All Animation Movie
Unlike the first two Smurfs, where they combined live action with animation, the Smurfs: the Lost Village is all animated. Both my husband and I really preferred it this way. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of Neil Patrick Harris, but it just doesn’t seem like the Smurfs with humans in the movie. To me, this had the feel of the original Smurfs.
I absolutely loved all the bright colors and the idea of “the lost village”. I don’t want to give it away, but it was definitely a fun add to the Smurfs story. Definitely, something I wondered for the longest time and I will say, it’s about time!
Smurfette The Heroine
Smurfette is the main character in this story and the one that saves the day in the end. Especially, since she needs to believe in herself to help her friends. I applaud Sony Pictures Animation for adding some great lessons into the movie.
The PG Rating
The movie doesn’t, of course, have anything that little kids shouldn’t see or anything scary at all. Both my girls 7 and 5 were just fine. The PG rating comes from the rude humor in the movie. There were a few jokes that only the parents will get and the word “stupid” could have been left out in my opinion. I’m just not a fan of the word. Other than that, the movie is fun and perfect for kids.

Best friends Smurfette (Demi Lovato), Brainy (Danny Pudi), Clumsy (Jack McBrayer) and Hefty (Joe Manganiello) use a special map that guides them through the Forbidden Forest, an enchanted wonderland that’s filled with magical creatures. Their adventure leads them on a course to discover the biggest secret in Smurf history as they race against time and the evil wizard Gargamel (Rainn Wilson) to find a mysterious village.
