A while back I shared with you all our fun Dear Sofia playdate party and I’ve received so many emails on my Puerto Rican Sandwiches de Mezcla Recipe. It’s a super easy recipe that’s perfect for get-togethers and parties.
Sandwiches de Mezcla Recipe
Making these brought back memories when I was a child. I remember going to birthday parties or family get-together’s and there was always a platter filled with these yummy Sandwiches de Mezcla, which really just means sandwich spread. These are definitely one of my childhood favorites!

The Perfect Party Sandwich
Not only is this recipe the perfect party sandwich recipe, but it’s super easy to make. Just make sure you make plenty for your party guests and yourself for later. I always expect some leftovers and every single time I’m disappointed not to have any. At least I know my guests love it!
Even my girls, who let’s be honest, are pretty picky eaters most of the time love them. Which reminds me, I need to get some more ingredients to make some for the girl’s school lunch this week! They make the perfect sandwich school lunch!
Ingredients Needed For Sandwich Recipe
- Bread slices (2 loaves)
- Sandwich spread
- Cheez Whiz
- Spam spread (2 cans)
As I mentioned above, I made these sandwiches for our Dear Sofia party because it was the perfect easy recipe for all the kids to enjoy. I made a large amount for both the parents and the kiddos at the party. I used the amount I mentioned above and it made the 2 bread loaves. By the time the party was over, I expected a few leftover pieces, but I wasn’t so lucky!
Note to self, keep a few sandwiches for yourself hidden in the kitchen!
How To Make Puerto Rican Style Sandwiches de Mezcla
One of my favorite parts about this sandwich recipe is that it’s super easy to make for parties, birthday celebrations, and even perfect for kids school lunches. Especially on those very busy mornings or on days that mom forgets to go grocery shopping. Which happens more times that I would like to admit.
- Simply mix all your Sandwich Spread, Cheez Whiz, and Spam Spread together in a large bowl.
- Stir until all ingredients are combined.
- Spread your mixture on one of the slices of bread and enjoy!
Tip: You could either mix with a spoon or you could use a blender on low to get a nice creamy consistency. Either way, it’s an easy recipe.
Crust On A Sandwich Or Crust Off
This preferance is really up to you. Do you prefer your crust on or off? Personally I love my Sandwiches de Mezcla with the crust off, but I’ll admit I usually don’t get that far. By the time I’m finished preparing all of the sandwiches for the party I’ve already had my fair share of several sandwiches. With the crust one!
Wichever way you prefer, just make sure to enjoy every bite.

You probably think I’m crazy at this point sharing so much about one simple sandwich recipe. I am definitely going to try this! I grew up in la isla and loved these sandwiches. My mom never made them at home so I never knew the recipe. Quite honestly, my daughters have never tried them. I can now make them and cross my fingers they will love them as much as we all did!

I can’t wait to hear what you think! They are my favorite! My daughters had it for the first time when I created this recipe for a party at our home. I thought it was time they tasted a bit of home. I love how easy it is to make!

hey! can i freeze the mezcla ?
Victoria says
Hi Carla! I’ve actually never tried freezing the mezcla but I don’t see why not. The only thing I would see happening when defrosting again is that it would become a bit watery. So I would probably add a bit of cheez whiz to thicken it up a bit. 🙂 Hope this helps!
