Imagine standing on a beautiful Florida beach as the sun is rising in the background. Two amazing creatures, loggerhead turtles, are waiting to be released back into their homes so that we can explore more of their journey and migration patterns. All while Teaching Our Youth To Take Care Of The Earth through the Tour de Turtles at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort.

Teaching Our Youth To Take Care Of The Earth | Tour de Turtles at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort
Living in sunny Florida gives us the chance to explore a lot of the natural habitat that surrounds us. This year we had the opportunity to be apart of the Tour de Turtles and their race for conservation. My family had such an incredible time watching the way nature can be beautiful and unexpected. As Disney’s Animals Cruz and Sally (yes, named after the characters from Cars 3), two loggerhead turtles returned to their homes.
Tour de Turtles Event
We had never heard of the Tour de Turtles event that goes on worldwide as turtles are released back into their homes so that we could learn about their migration and living activities. It has been a highlight of the year for us. To see these amazing creatures up close and to watch them race back into the ocean was something of magnificence. An event I believe should be shared more with our youth and locals.
Sea Turtle Conservation
Sea turtle conservation is an important part of our environment, and many are not educated to understand the importance this is for our Earth. Many think that conservation just involves recycling or not littering, but there’s so much more that goes into play when it comes to conserving our environment. These 18 loggerhead turtles are racing to bring awareness to different causes of the environment. If we all do our part, together we can take care of the Earth and animals that inhabit it.
Learning About Nature
If you ever have the opportunity to attend the Tour de Turtles, we highly suggest it. Not only did we witness nature at its finest, but we all had the chance to learn more about the turtles and how we can help protect them. My girls love learning about animals and nature, so they were so excited to be apart of such a fantastic event.
Educating Our Youth
The Tour de Turtles event not only gave us the opportunity to watch these creatures up close and personal, but we were also able to learn fun facts about them. Kids were encouraged to fill their activity map given to them on arrival. Each station taught them something new about turtles or the environment, earning them a stamp and new knowledge. It’s a family event that I know we will visit again next year.
Captain Ron
We also got a chance to say hi to Captain Ron and meet Dory for the very first time. Captain Ron is a pocket-beagle who is trained to help find sea turtle eggs buried on the beach and protect them from beach goers. Dory is the newest addition to the team.

About Tour de Turtles
In partnership with the Sea Turtle Conservancy and Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Team, researchers released two loggerhead sea turtles from Disney’s Vero Beach Resort this morning as part of the tenth annual Tour de Turtles migration marathon. Scientists will track 18 other sponsored sea turtle marathoners to discover more about their habits at sea, identify migratory patterns and raise greater awareness about the plight of their species. Resort guests helped send the sea turtles off and enjoyed family-friendly activities that highlighted the importance of sea turtle conservation and actions we can take to help them. As part of Disney’s overall commitment to sea turtle conservation, a team closely monitors the sea turtle nesting activity on several miles of beach surrounding Disney’s Vero Beach Resort – one of the most active sea turtle nesting areas in Florida. The Disney Conservation Fund has also directed more than $2.6 million to help global sea turtle efforts and reverse the decline. Follow the sea turtles beginning August 1 at www.tourdeturtles.org.
