Our Michael Douglas interview Ant-Man and the Wasp was iconic. I mean the man is a legend and has done so many movies you can’t but just sit there in awe when listening to him speak. Thank you, Disney and Marvel, for allowing me to attend the Ant-Man and the Wap movie press junket in LA. All Marvel legendary opinions are my own!
Michael Douglas Interview Ant-Man and the Wasp | Dr. Hank Pym
When I think of Michael Douglas there are so many amazing movies he’s been a part of. The first film that came to mind when I knew we were interviewing him was Romancing the Stone. It’s one of my favorites and I remember watching it with my mom. I’m so glad that our interview with him lived up to all of my moms and my expectations.
About Ant-Man and the Wasp
From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.
Superhero Moment
The first Ant-Man Michael Douglas who plays Hope’s dad and Dr. Pym in the film said he was a little bit disappointed that he wasn’t able to suit up. As the original Ant-Man himself and the one who created the suit it was something he wanted to happen on the horizon. Good thing he’s back for the second part in Ant-Man and the Wasp having his own superhero moment. Not only his, but he could see how excited Evangeline Lilly was to finally be a superhero.
“If you remember the end the first one, but I show her Janet’s suit and there’s this look in her eye as Hope when she sees her mother’s suit. But when I was looking at her when she was doing the scene, I saw Evangeline going I’m going to be a superhero.”
Playing A Supportive Role
As talented and famous that Michael Douglas is, he has been the lead role in many, many films. Becoming the supportive role has allowed him to sit back and even share some of his own experience with the cast. He said Paul Rudd is such a sweetheart and set the tone every day on set. He said playing a supportive role in Ant-Man and the Wasp releases the pressure from you. Instead, he found himself Paul Rudd, which wasn’t planned.
“You’re the first one on the set, you make everybody else comfortable to make their best performances possible. I know what my role as an actor is but I know mostly what makes a good movie.”
Working With Michelle Pfeiffer
Learning about who actors haven’t worked with on set is so interesting and who they have on their own bucket list. Michael Douglas said the entire cast was amazing and Marvel did a phenomenal job casting everyone’s roles in the film. There was one person he was particularly excited to work with and that was Michelle Pfeiffer. I don’t blame him either! Michelle Pfeiffer is an icon, as he is, but to be able to say that you were able to work with her on a film is extraordinary. Interviewing her would have been another check off my bucket list too Mr. Douglas!
“I mean tremendous Michelle Pfeiffer fan. Never imagined ever getting a chance to work with her. Needless to say, to play 30 years younger. One of the joys of this point in my career, I want to work with nice people.”
Creating A Movie In A Divisive World
As I mentioned in my Ant-Man and the Wasp movie review, I believe the film is exactly the humor we needed after Infinity War. That also ties in with what is going on in the world right now. All the negativity we are surrounded by has to be muted for a bit with some laughter once in a while and I think that’s exactly what Ant-Man and the Wasp will be for many of us. It seems that Michael Douglas agrees as well.
“One of the joys of this business is you make a movie like this, it’s a worldwide success. The audiences from every continent go to see this movie and they laugh like we laugh. It just brings everybody kind of close together. It’s actually the aspect of our industry which I admire the most and it seems like a good time that we need that.
