Ingredients Needed For Earth Day Cupcakes
What I love about this recipe is that we are not making the cake recipe from scratch.
You are more than welcome to do so, I want to make sure that this activity is easy for the kids to make.
So using a box cake mix is perfectly fine if you want it to be quick and easy.
Plus, with so many amazing brands out there now you can easily create this recipe dairy-free or gluten-free if necessary.
- 1 box of cupcake mix, prepared
- 1 can of frosting
- Blue & green food coloring
- Marshmallow bag
- Red or orange jelly beans
How To Make Earth Day Cupcakes
This Earth Day activity is perfect for the kids to add to any science Earth lessons.
Let your imagination and science lead the way.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix your cupcake mix according to the package.
- Line a cupcake tin with the cupcake paper liners and fill 2/3 of the way full with cake batter.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and allow cupcakes to cool completely.
How To Make The Earth Core Center In Cupcakes
This is my favorite part of this entire recipe.
My girls think it’s the coolest thing when they get to enjoy them after baking.
- Scoop out the center of each cupcake using a melon scooper or a spoon.
- Cut a marshmallow in half and press a red or orange jelly bean into the center.
- Now place your marshmallow in the center of the cupcake, right where you created your hole.
- To finish up, separate the frosting into two equal amounts.
- Color one of the frosting halves with green food coloring.
- Now color the second half of your frosting with blue food coloring.
- Spoon into a pastry bag or zip-lock bag.
- If using a zip-lock bag cut the corner and frost the top of the cupcakes.
- Use a butter knife or spreader to swirl the colors together.
