I hope that you all joined us this month for a fun Poppins Book Nook with the Great Outdoors! My girls were so excited when I told them our theme this month, but as girlie as they are, they love being outside fishing, playing, and having fun! We have not taken the girls camping yet, so I thought it would be a great theme to cover with our great Outdoors and because they love Curious George so much we decided on Curious George Goes Camping as our book this month!
Our girls love the idea of camping so much that they actually have their own sleeping bags and tents that we set up in our living room all the time. For this months theme I thought it would be a fun idea to surprise the girls with an afternoon of camping…. in our backyard of course 🙂
We had tons of activities planned, but with this crazy Florida afternoon storms we could only enjoy the great outdoors for just a bit, but we still made it work!
We first grilled hot dogs outside and they got to enjoy them in their camping tents. I thought it was pretty funny how about half way through their lunch they wanted to come back inside because there were too many bugs like ants crawling in their tent.
Camping in the Great Outdoors is just not the same without s’mores, right? So we made our own Mini S’mores in a Jar, perfect for camping! They were just as messy and yummy, but these would be perfect for taking when we actually go camping!
Ingredients for Mini S’mores in a Jar:
- Mini marshmallows
- Mini chocolate chips – We use Enjoy Life, because they are allergy free
- Graham crackers crushed
- Small mason jar
- Microwave or oven
To make our Mini S’mores in a Jar we made the first layer in the jar with crushed graham crackers, then we sprinkled a layer of chocolate chips, and then a layer of mini marshmallows. Repeat this process until your jar is full, but not overflowing.
You can either place your jars on a baking pan in the oven for about 10-15 at 350 degrees or place in the microwave for about 30 seconds. That’s it! There are also a great snack on the go once you place the lid on to seal everything inside! Hope you enjoyed visiting this months Popping Book Nook with us!

Sooo cute! I’m a Floridian too and remember camping a lot as a child. With all boys, you’d think I’d be out there camping now, but it’s just so HOT! 😉 I LOVE the s’mores in a jar idea. My boys are huge fans of s’mores, and this is such a cute (and fun!) alternative when you just can’t do the real thing. Thanks so much for sharing the fun!
abccreativelearning says
Oh, fellow Floridian! How fun! Yes… the girls have been wanting to go camping, but it’s way too hot… for me at least 😉 Thanks for stopping by!
