One of the things that I loved about the holidays is gifting fun unique ideas, especially yummy ideas! Such as my Puerto Rican Arroz Con Dulce Holiday Gifting recipe! A gift can be a favorite recipe with a unique twist!
Puerto Rican Style Arroz Con Dulce Holiday Gifting
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things of the holidays seasons is all the yummy food! I love trying out new dessert recipes that friends and family members share. Nothing really makes me happier than when someone takes the time to cook or bake something special for me.
That’s why when I was thinking of ideas on what to create for this years holiday season gifting I decided on a recipe that my family makes every year during the holidays and it’s something that is very popular back home in Puerto Rico. This year I decided on gifting some special Arroz Con Dulce with a bit of my own style.
I headed to my local Walmart to pick up all the ingredients I needed, including Don Victor Honey Globe Jar! You can find the Don Victor honey in the hispanic section at your local Walmart stores. I think that these honey jars make the perfect gift in baskets as well, they are so cute and pretty. This year I will be using them in my arroz con dulce recipe!
Ingredients needed to create your Arroz Con Dulce Recipe:
- 1 cup of uncooked medium-grain white rice
- 2-3 cubed pieces of ginger peeled
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 5 cloves
- 2 small cans of evaporated milk
- 1 large can of coconut milk
- 1 1/2 cups of water
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons of Don Victor Honey
- 1/2 cup of raisins
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon (garnish)
- Don Victor Honeycomb (already inside honey jar)
This arroz con dulce recipe is absolutely delicious and makes a good amount, but although it’s super easy to make it takes a bit of time because of the process.
Step One: Place your cup of rice in a bowl of water for at least 2 hours. Then drain, rinse well, and drain again.
Step Three: While your rice sits in water go ahead and place your peeled cubed ginger, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a saucepan with 2 cups of water. Bring the water up for a boil and then let simmer for 2 hours. Strain mixture into a small bowl, tossing away your cinnamon sticks, ginger, and cloves. Set bowl aside for later.
This is by far my favorite part because your house will smell absolutely divine and definitely puts you into the holiday spirit!
Step Four: Add your cinnamon ginger clove mixture in a large pot along with the evaporated milk, coconut milk, salt, and 1 1/2 cup of water. Mix together and set aside at least 1 cup of this mixture. You will be adding it later on again.
Bring mixture in pot to a boil, add your rice, and reduce to low simmer for about 30 minutes without stirring.
Step Five: After 30 minutes add your sugar, honey, raisins, and the rest of your milk mixture you had set aside earlier. Cook for another 40 minutes on low, stirring gently every 10 minutes. This is to avoid rice sticking to your pot.
I know that this step is tedious, but put a timer on every time you stir, add another 10 minutes on your timer. Do this for 40 minutes. Remember, you don’t want to stir a lot or in circular motion. Just forward and backwards. Enough to stir and not allow rice to stick.
Step Six: Once your arroz con dulce is ready go ahead and transfer either to pie pans, pie plates, or disposable loaf containers to give away as gifts. Allow to sit out for about 2 hours until cool and then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
Once ready to eat or gift sprinkle with a tablespoon of cinnamon, drizzle Don Victor Honey over cinnamon, and cut a piece of the eatable honeycomb to place over your arroz con dulce.
Wrap your gifts with some cellphone and a nice bow! Gift these sweet treats to you family and friends this holiday season!
