Whether you are expecting or a friend has just had a baby, these 7 New Mom Must Haves are going to be the difference between good and bad days sometimes. For new moms comfort and ease are the key to everything from clothing to food preparation. These tips will give you a chance to pamper that friend that just had a baby, or prepare for your own first few week and months home with your child. This post was inspired by two of my lovely friends who are recently expecting new bundle of joys!
7 New Mom Must Haves
Camisoles or tank tops. If breastfeeding, there is nothing more comfortable than wearing something like this all day long for easy feedings. They are handy, comfortable and easy to move around as needed for your baby to nurse. While not always he best choice for being out in public, you will live in these for the first few weeks and months if you have chosen to breastfeed.
Cocoa butter. With the shift in hormones from pregnancy to post partum, your body will make all kinds of unusual changes. One of those things can be bad flares of eczema or severely dry skin. Cocoa butter is a great dual purpose choice post partum. Not only will it moisturize your skin, it will help decrease the appearance of any stretch marks gained during pregnancy. This new mom must have is a great choice to tuck into gift bags or baskets for baby showers.
Maternity blue jeans. A cute pair of maternity jeans was great when you were pregnant but don’t put them away just yet. Your body will not go right back to pre-pregnancy shape in days. That along with potential staples or stitches from a c-section means that your maternity jeans will be a favorite you go for the first few weeks after your baby is born.
A cloud storage account for pictures. You will take hundreds or potentially thousands of pictures the first few months your baby is alive. You don’t want to lose those pictures that are often captured on your smart phone. Make sure all of your devices that images would be saved to are also connected to a cloud storage system so they are not going to disappear if something happened to your phone or SD card. Dropbox is a great choices that offers 2 free gigabytes and reasonable monthly rates for larger storage amounts.
A dual purpose diaper bag and purse combination. You’ll be forced to tote around a larger bag to carry diapers, wipes, formula, blankets and a change of clothes, but to help you feel less like just another mom, you should invest in a cute bag that works with your wardrobe as a purse. This bag will feel less baby themed, yet still be functional for daily use as a diaper bag.
Baby swing or bouncy seat. These are both life savers if you child likes to be bounced or rocked and you are exhausted. While you should never leave a baby in one to sleep, they are a great way to soothe a fussy baby while you do something as simple as paint your nails or fold laundry. Every mom needs a break and these help tremendously.
Baby sling, wrap, or carrier. This will be another life saver you will wonder how you survived without. A sling style carrier, or a more traditional carrier can both work wonderfully to keep your baby close while you work, but still free up your arms. There are dozens of styles, but it really depends on your own preference and how large your baby is.
These new mom must haves are just a few of the things that can make your life easier and happier during those first few months post birth of your child. I’m pretty sure both of my friends would agree with my list!
