Well it was that time of year again where we head on over to our allergist and test Princess for her food allergies. I knew they were doing some new food testing on her because of an allergic reaction she had last year to pineapple. Usually my husband accompanies us to our appointments but now that Lil’ Cheekkers is older and prefers to run around the office we decided that she would stay at home with him. This was not easy, because we never know how she will react to a skin test, so I was afraid to go by myself. Thankfully everything turned out okay 🙂
Now that Princess is older she understands a little more on what is being done to her and it is a little harder. She was fine until they began the skin test and cried the entire time! So hard for me to watch, but I know that it needs to be done. (The picture above shows her back right after the skin test began) The doctor and I decided not to skin test her for peanuts because her results have been high in the past and the probability that it had diminished were very low. We then decided to test her for dairy, dogs, all nuts, and pineapple. Immediately I could see that her dairy test was beginning to spread and swell, my heart sank. I was still hoping that somehow her milk allergy had gone away. Thankfully she came out negative to everything else, because we have two dogs at home and our girls would be crushed if for some reason we would have to find new homes. We are still avoiding pineapple just in case, per doctors orders. He explained that it could have been a reaction to the pineapples acidity. We are now introducing some almond products to her diet in form of milk and in foods. We decided not to let her have nuts in raw form just because they are too similar to peanuts and we want to avoid her mistaking them at all cost!
We will be returning to our allergist in about two weeks for a cooked milk oral test. I will confess that I am terrified of doing this test just because her results have always been high and we have no idea what will happen, but I trust our allergist and have faith that everything will turn out okay.
Do you know anyone to food allergies? What are they allergic to? Share with us 🙂
