Summer is just around the corner and the girls are all about going to the beach. For the next few weeks we will be learning about Ocean Life and they are super excited! After reading The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister, the girls really wanted to make their own rainbow fishies.
Materials Needed to make your Fish Sun Catcher Craft:
- Fish template
- Tissue paper
- Buttons for eyes
- Contact paper
Step 1: Stencil out your fish either on a separate sheet of paper or right on your construction paper. Once you have your fish stenciled or drawn fold it in half and go ahead and cut around the inside middle area. You want the fish shape with a hole in the middle.
Step 2: Cut out two squares of contact paper that will cover your entire fish. With a little help from your artist pull the contact paper apart with the sticky side up. Do this slowly so that your contact paper doesn’t stick together or crinkle up.
Step 3: Gently stick your fish pattern right on the sticky side of your contact paper.
Step 4: Cut the tissue paper into strips and then into squares of different sizes. Have your kiddos stick the tissue paper flat right in the center of the fish covering all the sticky areas. I had the girls place their button as eyes before they began adding their tissue paper to the fish.
Step 5: Using the second piece of contact paper you cut out and with some help pull apart the contact paper. Gently and carefully starting from the middle stick that second layers of contact paper on the side where the tissue paper is on. You’re basically laminating your fish. If you have a laminating machine you can use that as well. I like using the contact paper because I think the light comes through much better than when laminating it.
Step 6: Cut around your fish to discard any contact paper not needed.
Even though Sun Catcher crafts are one of the easiest crafts we usually do, the girls LOVE looking at them! They are so fascinated by the colors and how the sun projects them through our livingroom.
Hope you enjoy making your Fish Sun Catcher Craft!
