One of the things that I love to do is create fun DIY crafts that I can also use on a daily basis and with friends when they come over to visit. I also love not having to do dishes by hand when I do have friends and family come over. I know as busy moms we don’t have a lot of time to create things from scratch, but with this easy DIY Home Chalk Projects with Finish® Max in 1 you will be creating your own chalk projects that are great for just throwing in your dish washer!
I love creating things myself, but often find myself purchasing the materials and never creating my craft! Creating your own Chalk labeled mugs, glassware, and containers is super easy and won’t take up a lot of time!
First make sure your glassware is nice and clean before starting. I personally ran my glassware in the dishwasher with Finish® Max in 1 to make sure it was cleaned of any debris or anything small that might show through the paint. I purchased my Finish® Max in 1 at my local Target store in the dish detergent area. My Target had them on the top shelf, so be sure not to miss them.
Don’t forget to add your Finish® Max in 1 to your Target Cartwheel App to save 5%! I LOVE my Target Cartwheel!
Materials needed to crate your own DIY Home Chalk Projects: (I purchased everything at Target as well)
- Glassware (coffee mug, wine glass, glass storing container, and even plates)
- Chalkboard Paint (make sure it’s washable paint)
- Small flat paint brush
- Painters tape
Step One: After you have washed your glassware decide where you would like to paint your chalkboard paint on each piece. Mark that area off with painters tape to make sure that you do not get it anywhere you do not want it.
Step Two: Using your flat small paint brush go ahead and dip into paint. Cover the entire area where you have taped off with a thin later of chalkboard paint.
Step Three: Set aside and allow to dry for about an hour. Double check instructions on your paint bottle, but they all usually have you wait an hour or two before adding a second coat.
Step Four: Once you have let your glassware sit for an hour or two, go ahead and add a second coat of your chalkboard paint. Allow to dry overnight to make sure that the paint is completely dried.
Step Five: Once your paint is completely dried and you have let it sit for at least 24 hours gently remove your painters tape.
Step Six: Lightly rub chalk over paint to condition.
Step Seven: Clean up with soap and warm water, or in my case I already had a fully loaded dishwasher so I went ahead and just added my chalkboard glassware to my dishwasher and ran it. Like I said, I am one busy mommy and this just took one step off my plate, plus I got to test how good the paint was.
Step Eight: Chalk up your glassware with anything you want! You can be funny and creative with your glassware! Remember, the more chalkboard paint you add to your items the more writing space you will have.
- Wine Glass: I absolutely loved how the wine glasses turned out. I did a set of 4 and they are perfect for when my friends come over and we can easily write our names on the bottom so that they do not get mixed up.
- Coffee Mug: I LOVE my coffee in the morning and I think it’s a fun way to let my husband and the kids know when I’m ready for them in the morning 😉
- Snack jar: My girls are always asking for snacks, so this is an easy way for me to set out a daily snack jar where they can go on their own and grab a snack
